Re-Finance Your Mindset

In a world full of uncertainty, emergencies, pandemics, and dire situations, it is good to attempt to maintain some discipline and stability in life with good personal finance habits. It is a new year and with 2020 leaving us, it is a good opportunity to try and get back on track if this year derailed you in any way.

I have always been a natural saver in my life, but I do splurge periodically on things that provide value in my life- but I always save for them first and never consider putting myself in financial jeopardy in order to "treat" myself.

This blog's intention is to attempt to help people who are in need of a different outlook on personal finance. If you found that this year wrecked/hurt you financially, this blog aims to help provide you with some simple steps that could change your financial outlook for the long run.

Although the steps outlined in this blog will be simple, they will not be easy to implement. In a world designed to tempt you to splurge, spend liberally and impulsively, consume more, buy the highest quality product, subconsciously trick you into making you think you need a want, and peer pressure you into putting yourself in a position of financial vulnerability, it is easy to get sidetracked and play into the corporate game which will leave you desperate and in a constant state of victimhood.

Implementing a few easy steps in your life can potentially help you make a complete 180 when it comes to the way you look at life, your future, your values, and your mental wellbeing. Finances are directly interrelated with every aspect of your being- physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, relational. Having good financial habits is absolutely paramount to a "successful" life in any aspect of the word.

I know there are many people coming from all kinds of different walks of life- some come from parents who gave them everything and they don't need to worry about finances (although one day they might). Some people come from complete poverty and have no money to set aside (or so they think). The goal is to spend less than you make and set a goal that gets you so entranced in it that you are blinded to all of the temptation and side quests along the way.

The very first and most important aspect when beginning a financial life resolution:

Believe you can.

It is incredibly easy to place any kind of blame for our situations onto others- even if there is some merit in the fact that billionaires run the world, greedy corporations aim to increase profits while you starve, and the government takes more in taxes than they should considering how little they give back in the form of actual needs for people (healthcare, college, etc.)- what good does this do you?

What good is it to complain about things that are out of your control. No question mark needed because it is rhetorical, and you know this, but yet people will always continue blaming something else as long as they don't have to make a change in their own lifestyle and way of life. Because change is hard.

The hardest thing you can do is change.

The most ironic part about change is that it is the only constant. Quit fighting it.

When re-financing your mindset and making a change for the better, you have to accept there are factors outside of your control and there are factors within your control. You have to separate the categories and go after attacking the beliefs and factors you can change- because they have not helped you up until now and the goal is help you through some drastic lifestyle change.

When you start to believe there is some hope when it comes to changing your status in life, you begin to look into making changes that will not only change you, but also your family tree, the people you surround yourself with, and the people who also need help. If one of your ultimate goals in life is to be compassionate and help others, shouldn't you start with helping yourself first, putting yourself in a position of strength in order to lift up those who need a hand? It's very possible- even in the climate of today's uncertain world.
